- The “castle” — the hall where a Reych meets.
- Burgfrau
- The wife or partner of a Schlaraffe.
- Ceremoniale
- The fixed rules and sequence that give a Sippung its framework.
- Einreiter
- A visiting Schlaraffe from another Reych; a guest from elsewhere.
- Fechsung
- An artistic contribution in a Sippung’s program (a talk, music, a poem).
- Junker
- A membership rank after the Knappe, before the Ritter (knight).
- Knappe
- A membership rank (squire) on the path from candidate to knight.
- Kugelung
- The ceremonial admission of a new member into a Reych (by ballot vote).
- Lulu
- The Schlaraffic greeting and cheer of approval.
- Pilger
- The first stage (“pilgrim”), in which a newcomer gets to know Schlaraffia.
- profan
- Everything outside the Schlaraffic world — the “profane” everyday.
- Reych
- A local Schlaraffia chapter (association). You say “the Reych,” plural “the Reyche.”
- Ritter
- The highest ordinary membership rank (knight) — the full member.
- Sasse
- A member of a Reych; a resident Schlaraffe.
- Schlaraffe
- A member of Schlaraffia.
- Schlaraffia
- A worldwide fellowship for art, humor and play, founded in 1859.
- Sippung
- The ceremonial evening — the regular gathering of a Reych.
- Spiegel
- The founding charter or rulebook of a Reych.
- Uhu
- The owl — Schlaraffia’s emblem, a symbol of wisdom and humor.
